Steve Burke
Biography / Trivia
A native of the Isle of Man and an alumnus of the King's College London music program, Steve Burke had only worked as a film composer for a year before he was recruited by Rare, Inc. Since then, he's been writing music and making bizarre sound effects for the industry giant.
Burke has filled a variety of roles at Rare: contributing sound effects, composing additional music, playing instruments, and even a touch of voice acting. But 2005's Xbobx 360 launch title Kameo: Elements of Power was Burke's first major solo game score. Well-received, the music was released on CD and nominated for several awards, an auspicious beginning for the composer's career.
"It's a great career to get in to. My advice is to be as versatile as possible in the styles of music you can write. Get a showreel CD together and make it sound unique, don't just stick a bunch of drum and bass tracks on it, really go out of your way to stand out from the crowd."
