Liner Notes
The Music of Hitman: Blood MoneyThis awe-inspiring video game series is acclaimed for its anti-hero icon named Agent 47, its innovative stealth/action gameplay, cutting-edge visuals, compelling storyline and its unique, cinematic musical scores composed by Jesper Kyd.
Jesper Kyd's in-depth understanding of the character, storyline and history with the Hitman franchise has allowed the music for this beloved franchise to develop and mature in accordance with the latest challenges and exploits of Agent 47. His powerful blend of ambient, electronic and classical orchestrations enhances the emotional and dramatic impact of each production so that his music has become an integral and identifi able factor in the growing success of the franchise.
Building on the previous accomplishments of the music for the Hitman series, Jesper Kyd delivers a dynamic live orchestral score for Hitman: Blood Money, recorded with the 150-member Budapest Symphony and Hungarian Radio Choir. In addition to composing and producing the choral and orchestral score, Kyd penned several acoustic and electronica-fused music tracks for the latest Hitman score. In short, the music style for Hitman: Blood Money is epic orchestral, electronic and a fusion of both.
"It seemed like a natural choice to mix things up for the Blood Money score. After the electronic-driven score for Hitman: Codename 47, the orchestral Hitman 2: Silent Assassin score was a new direction for the sound of Hitman, although there are still a few purely electronic tracks in Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. For the third title, Hitman: Contracts, we wanted to go back to the game's roots and create an updated and more modern electronic score. So the Hitman series has a strong background in electronic music."
Therefore, it became clear to Kyd that embracing a classical orchestral approach for the highly ambitious Hitman: Blood Money was not going to be enough. "I wanted to clearly identify the music style that has become the 'Hitman sound' and so I came up with the idea of not only having both orchestral and electronic music, but creating a third music style that was a fusion of electronic music played together with an orchestra and choir."
Kyd's dedication to produce scores that transcend traditional repertoires has gained him critical acclaim from the entertainment industry and a highly regarded reputation and status amongst Hitman fans for constantly pushing the envelope: Hitman: Blood Money is no exception.
"For the purely orchestral tracks I was determined not to repeat myself in regards to Hitman 2, so I added a lot more choir to the orchestral tracks. The electronic tracks are not as dark as in the Hitman: Contracts score. Some are even quite upbeat! With 47 in Las Vegas, I wanted to capture an American sound without being overtly generic, so I came up with a 70's lounge downbeat atmosphere. For one of the main themes, 'Apocalypse,' I wanted the music to literally sound like it was the end of the world."
Based in Los Angeles, California, the Danish-born composer is currently writing and producing scores for movies and video games. His evocative soundtrack for Hitman: Contracts was awarded Best Original Music by the British Academy of Film and Television and Arts at the 2005 BAFTA Games Awards. Hitman: Blood Money
Hitman is a multimillion selling video games franchise, designed and created in Denmark by acclaimed developer, IO Interactive and published by Eidos.
The fi rst in the series, Hitman:Codename 47 launched in December 2000. Developed exclusively for the PC, Hitman was the first game that allowed players to take control of an assassin and gave them the freedom to carry out hits in a variety of ingenious but nevertheless ruthless ways.
Hitman: Codename 47 was met with a rapturous critical reception. 47 was an entirely new and very stylish proposition amongst gaming's numerous clean cut heroes. Completely focused on eliminating the target his approach was brilliant, seemingly effortless and entirely without emotion.
In September 2002, Hitman expanded into the mass market console arena with Hitman: Silent Assassin, opening the game to a wider audience of gamers and inspiring an unprecedented level of devotion amongst its many fans.
By April 2004 and the launch of Hitman: Contracts, Agent 47 had cemented his position as an instantly recognizable icon of the international gaming community and Hitman had become a global killer brand.
Hitman: Blood Money™ sees the return of the world's deadliest assassin and takes killing for money to a whole new level. When assassins from Agent 47's contract agency, the ICA, are systematically eliminated in a series of hits, it seems a larger, more powerful agency has entered the fray. Sensing that he may be the next target, Agent 47 travels to America where he prepares to make a killing.
