Biography / Trivia

Sascha Dikiciyan is a music producer known for his collaborations with David Alexander on the Quake series and Cris Velasco on numerous high-profile recent titles. Born in Germany, he grew up learning the piano and drums and also enjoyed playing video games from the early 80s. In 1993, he moved to Los Angeles where he studied at the Musicians Institute and UCLA's School of Music. Inspired by the soundtrack for 1996's Quake, Dikiciyan composed the unofficial audio add-on Methods for Destruction with his band Sonic Mayhem and sold copies from his department.

Dikiciyan and fellow band member David Valencia decided they should score official video games given their passion for games and technology. He asked id Software whether they were looking for music on Quake II and, due to his work on Methods for Destruction, was chosen to lead the score. The resultant hard rock score received acclaim for its compelling themes and high production values. The subsequent score for Quake III: Arena defined what Sonic Mayhem was about with its fitting mixture of rock, ambient, and electronic elements.

Away from the Quake series, Dikiciyan oversaw music production in several other games. Sonic Mayhem collaborated with Tommy Tallarico Studios on Wild 9 and Tomorrow Never Dies. The company were also responsible for the sound design of Unreal and Unreal Tournament until Valencia left in 2000. Dikiciyan has also created edgy drum loops sample CD Noise Loopz and additional music for the 2003 films Shade and Headache. Between these projects, he produces dance music under the pseudonym Toksin through which he is known for his innovative remixes and genre-spanning original tracks.

In 2005, Dikiciyan rejuvenated Sonic Mayhem by introducing God of War composer Cris Velasco to the company and gaining Four Bars Intertainment representation. This has allowed the company to score numerous high-profile game projects, mixing Velasco's orchestral elements with Dikiciyan's electronic textures. These works have included Hellgate: London, Beowulf, Dark Messiah, BattleZone, and Beowulf. They have also worked with other musicians on projects like Haze, TMNT, The Agency, Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run, and Splinter Cell: Double Agent. The pair have recently completed their biggest score to date, Prototype.
