Biography / Trivia
Philippe Ulrich was one of the co-creators of the game companies Ère Informatique (1982), EXXOS (1988) and Cryo (1991). With creativity in his heart, he touched various art domains. He left school at an early age and traveled during 10 years, playing guitar in a rock band. In 1978, he released an album, "Le Roi du Gas-oil", and a year later, "Message Pirate", that unfortunately did not receive much appreciation.
He bought a Sinclair ZX 80 in 1980, and it was at this moment that he caught a virus, the one that made him crazy about computers. Although Philippe has a musical background and a fascination for the electronic genre, he didn't compose much for games; his role was rather the one of a producer and scenarist. One of the two experiences in game music he had was of having co-arranged three tracks and provided an orignal one for the "Dune - Spice Opera" album in 1992. The rest of the soundtrack was written by Stéphane Picq, whom Ulrich has much admiration for. The other experience is the compostion of the "Gift" soundtrack in 2000.
In 2004, he created a cartoon adaptation of "Gift" with Régis Loisel and composed the music for 26 episodes. The show aired on France 2.
In recent years, he became a producer for music artists (such as Henri Salvador), an author ("Un délicieux carnage", 2007) and a movie writer. Together with his associates Gilles Babinet and Sylvain Huet, he developed a new audio format in 2007: the MXP4.
