Biography / Trivia

Kim M. Jensen is a Norwegian composer and sound designer for video games, films, and television. Like many video game composers, Jensen was inspired to start composing in the late 1980s as a result of the Commodore 64. In 1993, the composer learned that the Norwegian game developer Funcom Oslo was likely to break through internationally and decided to apply for a position as a musician there. As Funcom's first composer and sound designer, Jensen immediately started work on the music for We're Back - A Dinosaur's Tale and endeared listeners with a light funk score. Jensen worked on Funcom's other titles released until 1996, namely the action games Deadly Skies and Nightmare Circus, the fighter conversions Samurai Shodown and Fatal Fury Special, the festive-themed Daze Before Christmas, and the conversion of Disney's Pocahontas. The composer truly enjoyed making music and sound for a lot of radically different purposes, but left Funcom after being dissatisfied with the effects of expansion at the company.

In 1996, Jensen was one of eleven Funcom employees that decided to set up their own company, DiMega Studios AS. After wasting money on a commercially unviable project, they decided to merge the company with the already established Innerloop Technologies in 1997 to create the Innerloop Studios. Using the opportunities provided by the PC and PlayStation, Jensen created musically diverse and technologically accomplished scores for their productions Joint Strike Fighter, Extreme Sports, and Jul I Blåfjell. Bigger successes were the infiltration titles Project I.G.I.: We're Going In and its sequel; their scores were praised for the way they enhanced the cinematic feel and tense atmosphere of the game while the sound effects were considered especially realistic and striking. While Innerloop Studios had enjoyed five years of financial stability, the long development time of the giant production Project I.G.I. 2: Covert Strike had compromised them. After attempting another financially demanding project, they decided to close the company in 2003.

Shortly before Innerloop Studios closed, Jensen created the audio production studio Audioplant. Dedicated to composition, sound design, and post-production music editing for a variety of media. Jensen continued to work on game projects for Artplant, including the overseas release Time to Ride: Saddles & Stables and a number of modest domestic projects. However, the composer was also able to work on television, film, advertising, and events for the first time after desiring to do so for a long time. The composer has shown considerable stylistic versatility on these projects while using state of the art technology. As on 2007, Jensen is employed full-time by motion graphics studio Toxic and has since regularly created music for advertising, television, and film. Audioplant will no longer operate as an audio studio, but there are long-term plans to adopt it into a community for sound designers and music producers. Having faced challenges creating music and sound since 1993, Jensen is strongly equipped to create suitable and credible music for the studio.
