Born in Chingford, East London, Graeme Norgate spent most of his childhood playing computer games and playing keyboards. Before beginning as a game composer, he worked in a bank and performed in a band called Autogeddon. After a few unsuccessful attempts with Hewson and Psygnosis, he made the jump and started working at Rare Ltd. in April 1994. The first project he was assigned to was Killer Instinct, which he composed together with Robin Beanland. Norgate can write in various genres ranging from electronic to orchestral music.

After leaving Rare in 1999, he co-founded Free Radical Design with four fellow Rare employees. Through the years, he forged the excellent aural aspect of the TimeSplitters series. He also composed for Second Sight and served as audio director for Haze. At the end of 2008, it was confirmed that Free Radical Design had gone into administration, leaving Norgate's job at risk.
