Biography / Trivia
Philippe Vachey is a composer and sound designer from France. He began his career in the game industry by joining Infogrames in 1991. He wrote music in a variety of genres, ranging from orchestral to electronic and rock to dance to list a few.
After studies in computer sciences (Bac E and BTS in "Informatique de gestion"), he went to work in the computer industry. While he has no musical education, bands, studio, concerts, and DJ-ing have been part of his life since age thirteen/fourteen.
His first game soundtrack was for Billiards II Simulator released on the Amiga in 1991. The most famous game he scored while at Infogrames is the original Alone in the Dark, a pioneer in the survival horror genre. A few years later, Vachey went to work for Adeline Software International. This company developed a popular series of adventure games, Little Big Adventure, and it is with these games that Vachey's name is most associated with. His fantastic scores are still discussed by fans more than ten years after their creations. He continued to provide music and sound effects for following titles developed by the company, even after it changed its name to "No Cliché" at the end of the '90s. The last game developed by No Cliché, the Dreamcast title Agartha, was sadly canceled, although some orchestral music has been composed.
In more recent years, Vachey has been working as a freelancer. He created Audio Gamers in 2004 along with Pierre-François Renouf, a company based in Lyon that specializes in the sound design and scoring of video games. Vachey acts as the audio producer and composer, while Renouf is the manager and sound engineer. His latest projects include low profile mobile phone and PC games.
Since 2004, Vachey has been a teacher at the French school of video game development, Supinfogame. As of July 2008, he was assigned to the role of Director of Studies.
