Biography / Trivia
Hailing from Keokuk, Iowa, Jeremy Soule's musical training took an
unconventional route. His father, a music teacher, recognized his son's
talent and arranged for him to recieve college-level music training
starting in sixth grade. By the time he graduated from high school,
Soule had training equivalent to a master's degree in composition.
With an impressive portfolio, Soule was hired by Squaresoft's short-lived Redmond, Washington branch at the age of 19. His score for Secret of Evermore received a CD release and critical acclaim, and led to a job at Humungous Entertainment after the demise of the Redmond branch. It was there that Soule met Chris Taylor, who would be instrumental in shaping the young composer's career.
Soule's orchestral score for Taylor's Total Annihilation brought him increased visibility and helped him assemble a musical team that has persisted through to his most recent efforts. He has since become Taylor's composer of choice, working with him on the Dungeon Siege series and Supreme Commander.
The composer has since branched out, with successful contributions to games such as Icewind Dale, Knights of the Old Republic, the first four Harry Potter video games, and the Guild Wars franchise. His work has won several industry awards, including a BAFTA, and an MTV VMA.
"I've been influenced by Nobuo Uematsu of Final Fantasy fame as well as Yuzo Koshiro. I love the ancient Japanese approach to music and the sound that it creates. This is a sound that I try to emulate from time to time."
