Biography / Trivia
A graduate of New York's School of Visual Arts, and the film scoring program at UCLA, Michael Giacchino honed his art at DreamWorks Interactive. Starting in 1994, he produced highly acclaimed symphonic game music for titles like the "Lost World" and "Small Soldiers" movie tie-ins. Giacchino's success in emulating the muscular orchestral techniques of John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith attracted the notice of no less than Steven Spielberg, who brought the young composer to the "Medal of Honor" series in 1999. Those hugely-successful scores led to feature film and TV assignments, including such hits as "The Incredibles," "Lost," and "Alias." While scoring for the big and small screens consumes much of Giacchino's time, he has remained active in video game music, co-writing scores like "Mercenaries" and "Black" with orchestrator Chris Tilton.
"I think my writing has an old-fashioned feel to it, for whatever reason. I'm just so influenced by the music that I listened to growing up, a lot of it out of the 60's, so it has a natural tendency to feel like it's from another era."
