Biography
As a young boy, Tim Wright already demonstrated affinities for music. He later went on taking piano lessons and composed a couple of songs while being in short lived pop/electro bands. He wrote some tunes, sometimes with his brother (Lee Wright), on the Commodore 64 and Amiga. This lead him to do the music for the 1989 demo "Puggs in Space", which later was developed in a full game as "Puggsy" (1994). Although he wasn't the composer for this game, he converted the music for the Amiga version and took the liberty of including cues from the original demo in the main theme.
Tim began his career as a game composer in the late '80s, having been recruited by Psygnosis and working mainly on Amiga titles until this company entered the console market. Popular soundtracks he composed during those years include "Shadow of the Beast II-III", "Lemmings" and "Wipeout". He left Psygnosis in 1995 to form Jester Interactive, under which he contributed to the creation of several music-making games. After having worked on 6 titles, he left to look for something new.
In 2003, Tim started a multimedia company of his own, "Tantrumedia Ltd". It offers several services, including website creation and music.
In recent years, things have been slower VGM-wise. He contributed 1 track for "Wipeout Pure", which came out in 2005 on the PSP. He might be involved in future Wipeout games, although the large amount of licensed tracks makes it hard. Since 2005, he is involved with the making of the "eJay" music softwares developed by Empire Interactive.
Tim released his first solo album called "MELT" in 2005. He is currently working on another one titled "Android Child". There are also plans of releasing a Wipeout album, a compilation of tunes from the whole series.
- One of the themes in "Puggs in Space" was reworked to become "Tim 3", a track from "Lemmings".
- On November 17 '07, Tim made available on his website a remix from the old "Puggs in Space" demo theme.
